Polaris Ranger Bed Dimensions & What Fits

Polaris Ranger bed dimensions by trim: XP 1000 is 36.7 x 54.2 x 12.5 in at 1,000 lb, SP 570 is 33.3 x 48.7 x 12.3, XD 1500 is 43.4 x 56 x 13.4. What fits.

A Polaris Ranger XP 1000 cargo box measures 36.7 x 54.2 x 12.5 inches (L x W x H) with a 1,000 lb box capacity, and that footprint changes with the trim: the mid-size SP 570 runs 33.3 x 48.7 x 12.3 inches, the full-size 570 runs 36.5 x 54 x 11.5 inches, and the heavy-duty XD 1500 opens up to 43.4 x 56 x 13.4 inches with a 1,500 lb box. Those four numbers decide almost every accessory question you will ask, from whether a full-size cooler drops in flat to which bed rack bolts up without a spacer. Below are the measured dimensions per trim, how to measure your own box, and how to confirm a rack or mount fits before you buy.

Polaris Ranger factory box dimensions by trim

Trim Box length (in) Box width (in) Wall depth (in) Box capacity (lb)
Ranger XD 1500 43.4 56 13.4 1,500
Ranger XP 1000 / Ranger 1000 36.7 54.2 12.5 1,000 (CA 600)
Ranger 570 Full-Size 36.5 54 11.5 800 (CA 600)
Ranger SP 570 (mid-size) 33.3 48.7 12.3 500

All values are the factory "Bed Box Dimensions (L x W x H)" and "Box Capacity" as listed on the current Polaris model spec pages. Usable space is smaller once a liner, rack, or storage box is installed.

Polaris Ranger bed dimensions by trim

The Ranger badge covers four very different beds. Polaris lists a "Bed Box Dimensions (L x W x H)" and a "Box Capacity" on every model spec sheet, and those are the numbers that matter for fitment. Here they are, straight off the current Polaris spec pages.

  • Ranger XD 1500 is the biggest box in the lineup at 43.4 x 56 x 13.4 inches and 1,500 lb capacity. It is also the newest platform, which is why so many rack systems for it are model-specific rather than shared.
  • Ranger XP 1000 and the standard Ranger 1000 share the same box: 36.7 x 54.2 x 12.5 inches, 1,000 lb capacity (600 lb on California models). This is the volume seller and the bed most aftermarket racks are built around.
  • Ranger 570 Full-Size is close in outside footprint at 36.5 x 54 x 11.5 inches but rated lower at 800 lb.
  • Ranger SP 570 (the mid-size chassis) is the smallest here at 33.3 x 48.7 x 12.3 inches and 500 lb. If you are shopping racks, this is the one where a "fits Ranger" listing most often does not, because the mid-size box is roughly five inches narrower than the full-size beds.

Every one of those is the factory box opening. A rack, liner, or storage box eats into it, so measure your usable space against the real gear you plan to carry, not the headline number.

Why the trim matters more than the year

People search "polaris ranger bed dimensions 1000" or "570 bed size" for a reason: within the Ranger family, the trim tells you more than the model year. The XP 1000 box has held the same 36.7 x 54.2 footprint across recent model years, so a rack that fits a 2020 XP 1000 generally fits a 2026. Cross-trim is where it breaks down. The mid-size 570 box is narrower than the full-size beds, and the XD 1500 is its own platform with a wider, deeper, taller box, so a rack cut for an XP 1000 will not carry over to an XD 1500 and vice versa. When a product page says "Polaris Ranger," always confirm the specific trim and year against the fitment chart before you trust it.

What actually fits a Ranger bed

Once you know your box size, the "what fits" questions get concrete.

  • Full-size coolers. A 45 to 65 quart hard cooler is usually 25 to 30 inches long, which drops into any full-size Ranger box (54 inches wide) with room to strap it down. On the mid-size SP 570 (48.7 inches wide), a large cooler still fits but leaves far less floor for anything else. Depth is the sleeper: at 11.5 to 13.4 inches of box wall, a tall cooler rides above the bed rim, so plan to tie it down rather than counting on the walls to hold it.
  • Bed racks and cargo racks. A dedicated rack turns the box into a two-level platform that keeps the floor open underneath. The Heavy Duty Rear Cargo Rack for Polaris Ranger (~$300) is the workhorse pick, and the Adjustable Aluminum Rear Rack for Polaris Ranger (~$300) slides to clear a raised load. To move light, bulky gear up top and leave the bed clear, the Aluminum Roof Rack for Polaris Ranger XP 1000 (~$240) is the two-seat option. These are cut for the full-size Ranger box, so confirm your trim and year on the fitment chart before you order, especially on the wider XD 1500, which is a newer platform with its own rack fitment.
  • Tailgate extenders. For loads that run past the closed tailgate, the Flip-Out Tailgate Extender for Polaris Ranger XP 1000 (~$170) stretches the usable bed floor and folds away when you do not need it.
  • Tie-downs and cargo nets. If you want to keep loose gear from sliding without adding a full rack, the Stretchable Cargo Bed Net for Can-Am Defender & More (~$60) stretches 47 by 27 inches over the box and hooks to four or more anchor points, so one panel holds odd loads down. It is listed as a cross-machine fit, so confirm it on your Ranger's fitment chart. It is the cheapest way to make a bare bed usable.
  • Bed storage boxes. To lock gear out of the weather and off the floor, the 21L Locking Bed Storage Box for Polaris Ranger (~$140) keeps tools and valuables secure, the 20L Bed Storage Box for Polaris Ranger and General (~$120) is the open-access version, and the 21L Bed Tool Box for Polaris Ranger and General (~$120) is the grab-all-day option. Each takes a slice of floor, so subtract its footprint from your box measurement.
  • Spare tires. A spare eats a big chunk of a Ranger box if you lay it flat. The Bed-Mount Spare Tire Carrier for Polaris Ranger (~$250) stands a full-size spare up off the floor and clears out when you need the bed back. If you want a mount that clamps a spare across a range of machines rather than the Ranger bed specifically, the RotoPax EZ Tire Kit Spare Tire Mount (~$150) is the universal option. Browse the full set on the spare tire mounts page.
  • Fuel and tools. Instead of standing a fuel can on the bed floor, a RotoPax 2 Gallon Gasoline Pack (~$110) on a RotoPax Standard Pack Mount (~$50) bolts to a rack or the bed and frees the box for cargo. RotoPax packs are sealed and stackable, so you can add a second pack on the same base.

For everything cut for this machine, the Polaris Ranger hub collects the racks, mounts, and storage that carry a verified Ranger fitment, and the full rack lineup lives on the UTV cargo racks page. If you are building the machine out beyond the bed, the Best Polaris Ranger Accessories guide stacks the whole build together.

How to measure your Ranger bed and verify fitment

Manufacturer numbers are the opening; your usable space is what is left after a liner, tailgate hardware, or wheel-well intrusion. Measure it yourself, then confirm the part.

  1. Measure the floor length front wall to closed tailgate, along the bed floor, not the top rim. The rim is often longer than the usable floor.
  2. Measure width in two places: at the widest point and between the wheel wells if your box has them. The narrower number is what a flat item has to clear.
  3. Measure wall depth from the floor to the top of the box wall. This tells you what rides below the rim versus what stands proud and needs strapping.
  4. Note the dump and tailgate function you want to keep. Some racks bolt over the box and still allow the gas-assist dump; confirm that on the product page for your exact trim.
  5. Match it to the fitment chart. On Maxt Offroad, every product page runs a year/make/model fitment chart. Pick your Ranger trim and year, and the chart confirms whether that rack or mount is cut for your box before you order. When a listing spans several trims, the chart is the tiebreaker, not the title.

That last step is the whole point of a fitment-first catalog: you are matching a real box measurement to a part built for it, not guessing from a "universal" label.

The chart below compares the factory box footprint of each Ranger trim: length, width, and wall depth in inches. Every value is measured from the current Polaris spec page for that trim. The same numbers are in the table at the top of this guide.

Frequently asked questions

What are the bed dimensions of a Polaris Ranger XP 1000?

The Ranger XP 1000 cargo box measures 36.7 x 54.2 x 12.5 inches (length x width x wall depth) with a 1,000 lb box capacity, dropping to 600 lb on California models. The standard Ranger 1000 shares the exact same box. That footprint has stayed consistent across recent model years, so racks and liners built for the XP 1000 box generally carry across the range.

How big is the Polaris Ranger 570 bed?

It depends which 570. The mid-size SP 570 box is 33.3 x 48.7 x 12.3 inches with a 500 lb capacity. The full-size Ranger 570 is larger at 36.5 x 54 x 11.5 inches and rated to 800 lb (600 lb in California). The mid-size box is about five inches narrower, which is why a rack listed for a "full-size Ranger" often will not fit the mid-size chassis.

Will a full-size cooler fit in a Polaris Ranger bed?

Yes on the full-size trims. A 45 to 65 quart hard cooler is typically 25 to 30 inches long, well inside the 54 inch width of an XP 1000, 1000, or full-size 570 box. On the mid-size SP 570 (48.7 inches wide) it drops in but crowds the floor. Because box walls are only 11.5 to 13.4 inches tall, a tall cooler rides above the rim, so strap it down.

How much weight can a Polaris Ranger bed hold?

Factory box capacity runs from 500 lb on the mid-size SP 570 up to 1,500 lb on the heavy-duty XD 1500, with the XP 1000 and full-size trims in between (1,000 lb and 800 lb, and 600 lb on California-spec models). That is the box rating, separate from total payload and towing. Always work to the box number for what rides in the bed.

How do I know a bed rack will fit my Ranger?

Confirm the trim and year, not just "Ranger." Measure your box floor length, width between the wheel wells, and wall depth, then match those against the product's fitment chart. On Maxt Offroad every product page carries a year/make/model chart, so a rack cut for an XP 1000 box shows as a fit for that trim and not for the wider XD 1500 or narrower mid-size 570.

From MaxtOffroad

The number that trips people up is box width, and it is why racks are listed per trim instead of one universal bar. An XP 1000 and standard 1000 box is 54.2 inches wide, the full-size 570 is 54 inches, and the mid-size SP 570 drops to 48.7 inches, so a rack cut for the full-size box overhangs or will not seat on the mid-size chassis. The Heavy Duty Rear Cargo Rack for Polaris Ranger is built to match the full-size Ranger bed and the factory tie-down points, which is the fit you want and exactly what a generic rack gives up. Whatever you bolt in, measure your own box first and match it to the fitment chart, because the usable space after a liner or storage box is always smaller than the headline number.
